ASR league

The Advanced Study Room League's website

beta launch!

Comments off

IT IS HERE!!! the new site is HERE!! andrew has worked so hard in making this site and it is finally here.

So here is the deal, in the past sign up was done by contacting an admin and he put you in the league and if you played >4 games you were automatically put into next months league.

This month is different because you need an account on the new site and after that you need to join the league with the KGS account you’ve coupled to your ASR account. So take the following steps EVEN IF YOU HAVE PLAYED MORE THEN 4 GAMES IN MAY!!!!!!!!

1. Register an account here. MAKE SURE YOU USE THE KGS ACCOUNT YOU ARE GOING TO USE IN THE LEAGUE IN STEP 2!!
2. Go to leagues page the and sign up for the ASR League!
3. You are now signed up for June league! wait for June and you will be in it!

please do not register multiple accounts as you will be able to couple more KGS accounts to your ASR account in the near future!

This site and the beta site will run parallel until we have enough functionality on the beta site to shut this one down.

  • Gamma Challenge: Introduced by our favorite admin, stalkor as a way of trying to get gamma to play more too. And it worked! Thanks to our glorious gamma players, ASR got a lecture by Cornel Burzo 7d  on moyo invasion and reduction! Well done, guys and gals! This month the gamma challenge will be 70%. You can do it!!!!!!!!!!
  • Most Active Player: Nguyenvu90  with 27 games ! He wins a teaching game with ruestyle.

Game of the Month

I have not been very good at advertizing the Game of the Month prize. Basically we are looking for a game that is interesting, and would be fun for people to watch. There was only one game nominated this month, so that was easy. Please keep this prize in mind and nominate games! If there are more games nominated there will be a vote for the best one.

Game of the Month April :niscend vs Clemantis. Clemantis is 4d but niscend 4k came close to beating him. Clemantis wins one audiogolesson and niscend wins a teaching game with shavshevet.

Thanks all for playing and contributing and make sure to make the alpha/beta challenge in April and we have a new gamma challenge too. The summary is PLAY PLAY PLAY!!! And have fun :D

Ruestyle 7d AGA will do a simul in the ASR on saturday june 15th at 17:00 GMT.

These are the rules:
-45 minutes main time and 5×1 min byo yomi for the players with japanese rules.
-Ruestyle gets 10 minutes extra for every player that signs up. Every player has to manually add time to him.
-Handicap will be go down 1 per every 10 players with 6d as starting rank. example: if 23 players sign up, handicap will be like you are playing a 4d.

If you would like to join in the simul, please leave a message to stalkor with your rank.

There is NO MAXIMUM on the number of sign ups, so lets set a record!

Kicking off in june if our brand new tournament system! Our very first tournament is scheduled for 14-15 September and is going to be a 32 player knockout.

Want to be in it? It’s real easy! Just be an active player (>4 games per month) in June, July and August and you will be invited! Just one thing though, you may not be in Delta class for more then 1 of those months.

The complete explanation you can find on our tournament page

We are looking into live streaming the last day of the tournament with a high dan (battoussai is pretty cool right?), depending on how much funds we have, therefor we need your help!

We will do 3 of these tournaments per year and our funds (sadly) are not unending. We ask you to please donate to ASR so we can keep giving out great prizes and buy pizza:P We do not keep any money, we give it all back in the form of prizes.

An anonymous sponsor has agreed to match the first 100 dollars donated to the ASR so every dollar you donate is essentially worth 2!

If you want to discuss the tournament system, there is a forum thread here on Life in 19×19.

New tag: #ASR League

Comments off

In order to prepare for a planned overhaul of the ASR Website, we are asking users to start using a new tag in their ASR games:  “#ASR League”.   For a transition period, the script will continue to recognize the old tag of “ASR League” but because a future script won’t, we’d like you to start using the new tag.  Thanks!

Kaya League suspended

Comments off

With a heavy heart, the ASR admin team has decided to suspend the Kaya ASR League. Unfortunately, we were not able to keep up the initial levels of interest – since December, the number of games and participants has shrunk continuously.   We had a good time running the league, and we hope that you enjoyed the games you played on the Kaya ASR League. It was a pleasure to work with the Kaya developers, and we commend them for their work integrating the ASR into the server.  We wish Kaya and it’s users the best of luck.

Best regards,
the Kaya ASR admin team.

The gamma division rocked and made it past the required 60% of activity! This means there will be an awesome lecture by Cornel Burzo 7d  on moyo invasion and reduction! Everyone in ASR is welcome to attend. The lecture starts at 5/11/13 19:00 GMT. There will be homework to prepare for this lecture, stay tuned for instructions where to get it.

23:00 GMT on the 27th of april the Study Group – Kyu will do an audio lecture on shusaku in the ASR!

Study Group – Kyu are dedicated to the advancement of Kyu level players. We have weekly lectures by 2d+ players, several tesuji/tsumego lessons a week, and a monthly tournament. We are glad to have you with us on the path to Shodan.

Go visit them on KGS (rooms->lessons->Study Group – Kyu) or their site http://www.StudyGroupKyu.org

see you soon!

It’s been so long since i posted! ASR has held out pretty well without me and i’d like to thank all of you for keeping it alive!

The past few weeks a few admins have resigned from our team and i’d like to give my greatest thanks for all of them because they have done a great job and it’s sad to see them go.

Thank you Topazg, Sandmann, Kayres and Rberenguel for being a great admin! i wish you all the best of luck!

Because Kayres and Topazg had responsibilities the following changes have been made:

Managing director: stalkor (yay i’m back!)
KGS liaison: drgoplayer
